Menri Monastery (Yungdrung Bon Monastery)

Menri Monastery (Yungdrung Bon Monastery)

Menri (Medicine Mountain) Monastery  is located in the Solan district of Himachal Pradesh, in a rather out of the way corner, far from cities and bazaars. Also known as the Yungdrung Bon Monastery. This monastery is run by the Yungdrung Bon Monastic Centre. It is another attractive tourist destination which was built by Abbot Lungtog Tenpai Nyima. It was constructed in the year 1969.

Distance from Chandigarh- This beautiful tourist destination is located at a distance of around 80km from Chandigarh.

How to reach there- It is situated on the Narag-Sarahan road. It is located about 20 kms from Solan.
There are two ways by which one can reach the monastery.
First one- take a right turn from Kumharhatti. This road will take you to a place Naina Tikkar. Road till Naina Tikkar is in very good condition. Its buttery smooth but totally zigzag. Scenery around this route is awesome. When i covered this route it was surrounded by clouds and they were adding more beauty to this place.
From Nainatikkar – Kwagdhar – Dilman – Deothal - Dolanji.
After Naina Tikkar road is not so good. There is a small dam at Deothal which is very beautiful. If bad roads are not a problem for you this route is advised as it have bonus also.
Second route is through Solan city. Drive till Solan city and than towards Oachghat and than Dolanji.
First route is on Sarahan road and second on Rajgarh road.
Second route is good till Solan city only, the road toward Oachghat is not very good but it also have one bonus. There is a Shiv Ji temple known as Jatoli Shiv Ling temple. Temple is beautiful and situated on a height and provide beautiful view around.

(Jatoli shiv temple, some construction work was going on)
After entering  Dolanji one can see the monastery from far away as it is situated on a hill.
Dolanji Monastery is one of the best place to
see Tibetan culture.

Monastery is beautiful and monks there are very kind and helpful. It is very attractive because of the colors and style directly attracts you toward them. Not only the monastery but buildings around are beautiful and in Tibetan style.

On the entrance there is a beautiful wall painting.

Bad roads can't take the beauty and charm of this place and happiness reflects on the faces once reached there.

Advise: One should try to reach this place before sunset as the
route is through valleys and road conditions are not so good, better option
is own vehicle or one can hire a taxi from Solan.
Reach early so that one can leave early before sunset as surrounding area is not much populated.

Monastery closes at around 1pm to 3pm. So reach before 1pm or you can enjoy the views and beauty of the monastery from outside.

  1. Pictures are very beautiful. Among the really small hill stations, 265 km from Delhi, Nahan city is located relatively closer to the plains. A town that boasts of its serene and dust free atmosphere Nahan is perfect for those who want to leave behind the hustle bustle of the city and enjoy their much awaited holiday in the arms of tranquility. Check out all beautiful hill stations near Delhi also.
